HWSS Qualification - Unvented Hot Water Systems up to 500 litres This qualification targets experienced plumbing and heating professionals requiring certification in domestic hot water system installation, servicing, and maintenance. The course ensures compliance with Approved Document G (ADG) 2010 when carrying out work on hot water systems and covers G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems up to 500 litres capacity and 45kW power input. QUALIFICATION DETAILS: • Course Code: HWSS (initial or re-assessment) • Qualification Validity: 5 years • Satisfies Competent Person Schemes (CPS) requirements under ADG • Required by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for solar thermal hot water system installers COURSE CONTENT: • Regulations, standards, and industry guidelines • Hot water expansion theory and storage principles • Design considerations and component functions • Safety controls, discharge systems, and integration • Installation and maintenance procedures (including unvented systems) • Health and safety considerations RECOGNITION: The certificate satisfies Competent Person Schemes (CPS) requirements under ADG, enabling self-certification of hot water installations. It's also required by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for solar thermal hot water system installers. PREREQUISITES: • Demonstrated experience with domestic cold and hot water systems • One DCLG-recognised competency in conventional fuel (gas, oil, solid fuel) OR NVQ Level 2 plumbing qualification • Familiarity with Part G Building Document recommended • Basic WRAS Water Regulations knowledge desirable ASSESSMENT METHOD: Mixed approach including multiple choice questions, short written responses, scenario-based questions, and observed practical tasks.
