Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions

How do I book a course?

Choose your course, pick an available date, and book and pay securely online by card. You’ll get an email confirmation and access to your student portal where you can see your bookings and details.

Booking & Payment
How do I pay?

Courses are paid by card at the time of booking through our secure checkout. If you’re booking for several people or need an invoice for an employer, get in touch and we’ll help.

Booking & Payment
Can I reschedule or cancel?

Yes — please contact us as early as you can. Rescheduling is usually possible with reasonable notice; let us know your booking reference and we’ll sort it out.

Booking & Payment
What do I need to bring on the day?

Photo ID (your driving licence or passport), appropriate clothing and safety boots, and any relevant certificates. For driving courses please bring your physical (card) driving licence — we can’t put you on the road without it.

Before Your Course
What should I wear?

Practical clothing suitable for a yard or site, and safety boots for plant, forklift and lifting courses. Where it’s needed, PPE such as hi-vis and a hard hat is provided.

Before Your Course
Where are your courses held?

At our training centre and yard in the Exeter area, with on-site test facilities for many courses. Some employer site-based training can also be arranged — just ask.

Before Your Course
What do I need before starting LGV / HGV training?

You’ll need a full car (category B) licence, provisional LGV entitlement added to your licence (via the DVLA D2 application and a D4 medical), and to pass the LGV theory tests before practical training. We can talk you through each step — give us a call if you’re not sure where you are in the process.

Licences & Eligibility
Do I need a medical for LGV training?

Yes. A D4 medical examination is required to add provisional LGV entitlement to your licence. We can point you to where to get one if needed.

Licences & Eligibility
Is there a minimum age?

For LGV the usual minimum age is 18 (sometimes earlier under specific schemes). Most plant, forklift and ADR courses are 18+. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, contact us and we’ll check for your situation.

Licences & Eligibility
What is Driver CPC and how often do I need it?

Professional LGV and PCV drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training every 5 years to keep their Driver Qualification Card (DQC). We deliver this as a series of 7-hour modules — you can do them across the year.

Courses
Which plant machinery courses do you offer?

We run NPORS-accredited training on 360° and 180° excavators, forward tipping dumpers, telescopic handlers, lorry loaders and more, with routes for both novice and experienced operators.

Courses
What forklift training is available?

Counterbalance and other forklift truck training to recognised standards, with novice, refresher and conversion options depending on your experience.

Courses
What is ADR training?

ADR training qualifies drivers to carry dangerous goods by road. It covers the core module plus packages, tankers and class-specific modules depending on what you’ll be transporting.

Courses
Do you run first aid courses?

Yes — Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day) and First Aid at Work. These are nationally recognised qualifications, typically valid for 3 years.

Courses
What is car & trailer (B+E) training?

Training to safely tow a trailer behind your car, covering coupling and uncoupling, reversing, load security and confident on-road handling.

Courses
When will I get my certificate or qualification?

Certificates are issued after you successfully complete your course; the exact timescale depends on the awarding body. You’ll be able to see your training records and any digital certificates in your student portal.
